6th and final race:
The conditions for this race had wind from 120 at 8 knots to start, building to 14 knots and then dropping back to 13 at the finish. With a third in this race, Grael/Ferreira were 2nd overall, Percy/Mitchell 3rd, and Loof/Eckstrom were 4th in this race and championship.
5th race on Feb. 17:
The regatta leaders Rohart/Rambeau finished 2nd after having been 3rd and 4th most of the race, and the early leaders in this race, the Portuguese team of Afonso Domingos/Bernardo Santos, were 3rd.
Grael/Ferreira had been 2nd in the race until the 2nd windward mark and then slipped to 4th at the end. Finishing in 5th were Francesco Bruni/Guido Antar Vigna and sixth was taken by Presti/Saliou who moved up from 15th at the 1st mark. Seventh place went to Loof/Eckstrom.
The 4th race on Feb. 15 started with the wind from 120° at 10 knots. At the first windward mark, it had shifted left 10 degrees and increased slightly to 11 knots. Leading at the first mark were Presti/Saliou (FRA) with T. Grael/Ferreira (BRA) and Labandeira/Thompson (ARG) in 2nd and 3rd.
By the leeward mark the wind had gone back to the right by 5°. First and second remained the same with Rohart/Rambeau (FRA) climbing to 3rd. At the 2nd windward mark, T. Greal/Ferreira were in front, Rohart/Rambeau 2nd and Presti/Saliou 3rd. Labandeira/Thompson moved back towards the front into 4th after being in 6th place.
The order of the top 4 remained the same to the finish, with Robert Scheidt/Bruno Prada moving from 10th to 5th in the final leg, followed by Frederik Loof/Anders Eckstrom in 6th. The standing after 4 races has Rohart/Rambeau in 1st with a 4 point margin over Grael/Ferreira. Loof/Eckstrom are two points further back in 3rd and Presti/Saliou are three points behind them in 4th.
Two boats, Milner/Johnston (CAN) and Roy Heiner/Alex Breuseker (NED) were OCS, three boats did not finish and two did not start.
The third race on Feb. 14 started in winds of 12 knots from 125° which eased during the race to 9 knots and moved 10 degrees to the right. Percy/Mitchell were leading at the first and second marks but were passed at the 3rd buoy by Robert Scheidt/Bruno Prada. Thereafter Percy/Mitchell alternated second and third places during the race with Rohart/Rambeau. Philippe Presti/Jean Phillipe Saliou were 2nd at the first mark and then settled into 4th. Loof/Eckstrom moved up from 8th to 5th and Murray/Palfrey stayed in 6th most of the race.
The second race on Feb. 13 had conditions of 14 to 15 knots at the start, increasing to 18 knots by the end. The direction was constant, from 130°. Xaviar Rohart/Pascal Rambeau led around all marks to win the race. with Percy/Mitchell 2nd, Reynolds/Trinter 3rd, Loof/Eckstrom 4th, and Domingos/Santos 5th. Yesterday's winner, T. Grael/Ferreira finished 6th.
The leaders after two races are Loof/Eckstrom with a 2nd and a 4th. T. Grael/Ferreira and Rohart/Rambeau are tied for 2nd, one point back.
The first race on Feb. 12 was on a sunny day with a strong wind around 18-20 knots. A few crews preferred not to leave the dock and one boat broke down before leaving the port area.
The race started at 16:16 with wind of 18-20 knots from 125°. By the third mark, the wind had diminished to 14-16 knots and moved 5° to the right where it stayed the rest of the race.
Leading around the first three marks was Max Treacy from Ireland. Iain Murray from Australia was 2nd until passed by Roy Heiner (Netherlands) at the 3rd mark. Following were a batch of world champions - Percy (GBR), Loof (SWE), Rohart (FRA), Reynolds (USA) and T. Grael (BRA).
By the 5th mark Heiner had taken the lead, T. Grael moved up to second and Treacy was in 3rd. Loof, Philippe Presti (FRA) and Reynolds followed.
