Final results for eight races sailed on March 30 - April 2 at Yacht Club Argentino, Buenos Aires.

Day One Report by ISAF:
Brazil's Alessandro Pascolato and Henry Raul Boening had an excellent opening day at the Star South American Championship after they won the opening two races.

Fellow Brazilian's Lars Grael and Ronald Seifert finished behind the leaders twice whilst Argentines Alberto Zanetti and Nicolas Rosas finished 3-4 to take third place after the opening day at Mar del Plata, Argentina.

Pascolato sailed extremely well on the opening day to take a commanding lead whilst #8 in the world Grael had to settle with two second place finishes.

During the second race Grael came close to defeating Pascolato but he chose the wrong side at the second upwind which ultimately cost him the victory.

During the day there were several DNF's due to broken masts and sails. The sailors started repairing their damaged boats early in the afternoon in preparation for the second day of racing.

Day Three report by Icarus Sailing Media:
It was time for Gastao Brun to shine in the 3rd day of racing, scoring a 2nd and a 3rd place and closing the gap to the podium to 1 point. These small point differences between the top 4 teams, mean that the last day of racing in Mar del Plata Argentina will be exciting for all.

The 1st race belonged to Zanetti from Argentina who had the early lead and did not give a chance to anyone else to claim the win. Behind him was Gustavo Warburg, who surprisingly stole the 2nd place from Gastao Brun and Alessandro Pascolato, but could not replcate his good performance in the next race.

In the 2nd race, it was time for Grael to show his experience in the gusty and wavy weather. He rounded the 1st mark in the 2nd place and very soon took the lead away from Brun, determined to keep it until the end. The last day is Saturday and Grael seems to be safe for winning this Championship if he keeps finishing in the top 3. However, the rest of the medals still are to be decided.

Final Report by ISAF:
Brazil dominated the 2011 Star South American Championship, claiming all three of the podium places at Mar del Plata, Argentina. Lars Grael and Ronald Seifert, who are ranked #8 in the world, won the gold medal after two second place finishes on the final day. Their point tally of 11 gave them a comprehensive six point win over Alessandro Pascolato and Henry Boening.

Gastao Brun and Gustavo Kunze enjoyed a strong final day finishing third and first in the final two races. They leapfrogged Alberto Zanetti and Nicolas Rosas (ARG) to clinch the bronze medal. The last day of the championship was very different to the previous two with light winds and big waves. The difficult conditions meant a lot of strategic sailing in both races.

In the seventh race of the championship Grael chose the safest path, along with Gastao Brun. But it was Pascolato who rounded the weather mark in front after a risky upwind leg.

Grael did not give up but it was Pascolato who finished ahead of his compatriots and the chasing Argentineans.

In the final race of the championship Brun sailed with a lot of confidence knowing a good performance would hand him the bronze medal. Who won the race and his nearest rival for the spot, Zanetti, finished in 16th and out of the medals.

The 2011 Star South American Championship combined all weather conditions with the experienced Grael claiming a deserved gold.
