Miles River One Design Regatta, 2008

The 2008 Miles River annual One Design Regatta this weekend had one of the better conditions in recent memory, especially Sunday.  Saturday we started with some practice (that is practice in and out from the race course) as threats of thunder storms and then darkening skies had the race committee send us all back to the beach to be safe.  After a short delay, we all went back out and got in 3 good and improving races.  Local aces Will (knuckles) Murdoch and Mike Keene showed us all how to play very challenging shifts with 2 bullets and a 4th.  They were in the lead after 3 races with last years winner Elliott Oldak and Chris Harden not far behind.  After a front went thru the area on Saturday night, Sunday was as nice as you would want with breeze from the north and a lot fresher with low humidity.  Temperatures were in the mid 80s and perfect breeze.  Elliott & Chris took 2 bullets while giving covering lessons to win the John Charles trophy for a second year in a row.
