Report by Philipp Rotermund: After years of absence the Stars came back to Warnemünde to have their 13th District Championship. The organizers did a really good job in the preparation of this event. We had our own bridge where all Stars were together with the trailers parked nearby. This is not usual, because during the time we were there, the Warnemünder Week took place and many other classes were in the harbour. On the first day of racing we had random weather and wind conditions. The wind varied between 5 and 13 knots and we had a mix of sun and clouds and some rain. Due to the wind and current conditions the race took us 2 hrs. and 48 minutes. Lots of thunderstorms influenced the wind so badly that we couldn’t have a second race on Friday. Saturday was just a perfect race day, with 25 degrees, 15 to 18 knots of wind and lots of sun. Two races were sailed in these perfect conditions. Robert Stanjek won the first and Mateusz Kusneirewicsz won the second. On the last day some fog in the morning delayed our start for nearly 2 hours. So the chance of a second race was slight. The race committee did their best to set up a course in these difficult wind conditions and we had another great day of racing even with the tricky conditions. Lennart Klemp, our race officer, and his team did an excellent job preparing our race course and making everything as comfortable as possible for the sailors. The 13th District also has to say thank you to the Warnemünder Segel Club who was a great host for this year’s championship. We had two really nice social events, great facilities and awesome racing during this three days. The Starclass will try to come back next year to take part in the ISAF graded Warnemünde Week.
Report from the event website: Third place overall, Robert Stanjek and Markus Koy (Berlin/Hamburg) ended the district championships dissatisfied: "The tenth place finish today came because we risked too much", said the unhappy Koy. Also Kusznierewicz did not have an optimal last day, only finishing in fourth place. However, the overall victory went to the Olympic winner in the Finn dinghy and bronze medallist of 1996.
