Pfingstregatta 2008

Sailed at the Union Yacht Club Attersee, the Pfingstregatta for the Star was the national championship of Upper Austria for 2008.

In a magnificent wind of four to five Beaufort, three races were sailed on Saturday. The 23 teams enjoyed the start of the new season with constant and fair conditions.

Christian Nehammer, going to the Olympic Games in China as crew with Hans Spitzauer, changed, for this Pfingstregatta, into the role of helmsman, and had a victory in the second race of the day.

After three races sailed the German team of Reinhard Schmidt / Dirk Meissner lead with Christian Nehammer / Adolf Lüzlbauer in second and Michael Fischer / Florian Urban in third. Thus, Christian Nehammer is on course to the state championship.

All sailors hope that Sunday also brings such good conditions. There are also three races planned.

-----------------

On Sunday, 11 May 2008, two races were sailed. On Mother's Day the Attersee was again at its best: unusual winds of five to six Beaufort from the North-East. In today's second race the wind gusted to 30 knots (7 Beaufort), which caused a mast to break. The remaining third race was moved to Monday due to the strong winds.

The first places in Sunday’s racing went to Michael Fischer / Florian Urban (UYCAs / UYCT) and the Germans Reinhard Schmidt / Dirk Meissner.

---------

With magnificent sailing conditions at noon today the sixth and final race of the Star boat Pfingstregatta was sailed. The daily victory went to the Olympian duo Hans Spitzauer / Christian Nehammer, sailing in this sixth race with their new Olympic boat, followed by Franz Kloiber / Andreas Mueller and Gerhard Weinreich / Maximilian Stelzl.

The overall standings did not change with a victory for the Germans Reinhard Schmidt / Dirk Meissner. The second place overall went to Christian Nehammer / Adi Lützlbauer, as in the fourth and fifth races Adi Lützlbauer replaced Hans Spitzauer and so they are not national champions. The title of "national champion of Upper Austria in the Olympic Star Class 2008" was given to the overall third place crew of Michael Fischer / Florian Urban. All participants believe that the great wind on the Attersee, as well as the outstanding social events have provided great memories and will return in September for District Championship of the 17th District, consisting of South German country, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Georgia, Central Russia and Ukraine).
