The first day of racing at the Zuger Yacht Club on Thursday, May 25 was abandoned due to lack of wind.
Reports and photo by Christoph Schumacher: The race committee completed three races, the first race taking place on the short course because of the still light wind. The fresh wind brought some material damage as a mast break was reported. Otherwise sailors enjoyed fantastic conditions.
Saturday:
Sunday: Against all wind prognoses for Sunday, just before noon a west wind arose, which increased in the afternoon up to four Beaufort. The two favorite boats Marazzi/Huter and Stagmeier/Stegmeier were into sailing duels. Different from yesterday, these duels paid off and Marazzi/Huter triumphed today in the last race and won overall. The brothers from Thun, Daniel and Beat Stegmeier finished second, Urs Hunkeler and Piet Eckert of the Luzerner yacht club Tivoli were third. Approximately 40 boats sailed in the championship, among them also six German crews; Von Linde/Fürer were the best German team, finishing ninth. The top Zug Yacht Club team was Weiss/Kottmann at 18th overall. For the host Zug Yacht Club the Swiss championship was a large organizational effort. Approximately 60 volunteers helped out daily: They organized the racing, provided for the physical well-being of the sportsmen and guests and ensured a smooth operational sequence. “We had a very inspired and efficient team. The outstanding infrastructure in our club house and the harbor facility contributed animportant part to it,” said Marco Barile, in chage of logistics. Also the yacht club president Heinz R. Jufer is content: “It particularly makes us happy that after 45 years a Star Swiss championship could so successfully be held again on the Zugersee.” The president of the yacht club added: “We would like to thank all sponsors, who made this event possible, above all UBS and the Volvo dealer Walter Carpenter AG in Hagendorn . Without their large commitment such a Swiss championship would be not conceivable.” |
