Thirteen boats from four fleets participated in the 2005 Bedford Pitcher, hosted by the Central Long Island Sound Fleet based at Cedar Point Yacht Club. Two races were run each day in mostly moderate breezes with the crews in and out of the boat. Conditions were quite shifty both days with the final race being the most difficult. The race committee decided, with the dying breeze, to shorten the race and as the fleet approached the windward finish line the breeze shut down completely. After waiting for about 20 minutes the wind decided to put in an appearance from the right giving those who had worked their way right a nice ride to the finish. The CLIS fleet members put on their usual Saturday night dinner with goodies galore. Again, special thanks to Tim Du Val for providing many of the making of the dinner. Because of a great concern on the part of many of the participants a meeting was held to talk about the future of Star racing in the 1st District. Sixteen year old Tomas Hornos from Boston, with his father Luis Hornos crewing, won the regatta. Tied on point but losing in the tie-breaker were Joe Bainton and Tod Raynor. In third place were Will Swigart and Carroll McCallum. |
