* Putting mast up on old reverse style trailer, rope holding stand breaks, bow goes down to the ground, guys keep the mast in control with no damage - Crazy.

* Phillips and McCarthy Saturday morning both had last minute crew cancellations. Give each other "the look" that neither were going to give up the helm and head out to sail solo. Phillips solo Saturday only, McCarthy solo both days.

* Guest Sunday morning looks out at the glassy water with a dozen cat's paws on it says, "It looks like the "Cat in the Hat" flag will go up." Local says, "We burned that flag and don't have one, we race, we don't sit. Launch your boat and get ready to go racing!"

* Race Committee Dan Tobin was given a plethora of race courses to use and with his judgement picked the right courses based on conditions. 6 races run as windward/leewards, 3 races run as leeward/windwards (start on the run). 1 of these races the wind speed was right to have the skipper and crew exchange positions for the entire race.

* No collisions, no protests.

* McCarthy explains his first win having rounded the last mark in 4th: I came out of the mark beating on port tack. Up ahead, a bald eagle was swooping down trying repeatedly to catch a fish out in front of me. Entranced with this, I just kept going. Suddenly I realized I must be near the layline, tacked on a massive lift passing the other three beating them to the finish line. Thanks bald eagle!"

* Someone in the 4th District started a vicious rumor a few days before the regatta that downwind starts were "dangerous." Everyone proved them wrong, Star sailors know what they're doing and there was no danger.
