The Lorain One Design Regatta combined the Star, Interlake and Jet 14 fleets for a day of racing on Lake Erie off of the Lorain, Ohio coast. Six local boats and three travelling boats took to the water Saturday morning to race for the title of Champion. Aside from being a little light on breeze, the weather was absolutely phenomenal providing a great afternoon for Star racing. Four races were run in variable winds of five knots or less from the North/Northeast with fairly flat water. Avoiding holes across the course was the key to success, both upwind and down. Consistency amongst the top three boats left them with only one point separating their final cumulative point totals. Mike Phinney sailing with Arthur Anosov as crew took the trophy with scores of 1-1-3 after a throw-out. The always fast husband/wife team of Tim and Molly Delaney closed out the day with a 2-3-1 to wrap up second place. World Champion and Olympic crew Phil Trinter took to the helm with Rick Burgess crewing up front to finish third with a score card of 3-2-2. Everyone in attendance enjoyed a warm spaghetti meal on the front porch of the Lorain Sailing and Yacht Club while sharing camaraderie with the other sailors from the Interlake and Jet 14 fleets. Many thanks to the LSYC and their race committee for hosting an awesome day of racing. |
