2014 Paw Paw Lake Open

86 year old Gene McCarthy starts his new campaign for Star excellence with a convincing victory over great competition at Paw Paw Lake, Michigan. Seven races sailed in winds which varied from 8 to 14 mph. Mary McCarthy, PRO, had 12 volunteers helping execute the regatta and Fleet captain Jeff Phillips (and wife, Lois) entertained the entire group at their beautiful home on the lake for dinner and put up all visiting crews in their home and "crew house".

Report from Neal Turlock

7 races through day one with wind from 6kts gusting to 22kts with stereotypical inland lake conditions. Perennial father and son duo of Gene and Glenn McCarthy are in the lead with 11 points, followed closely by a crew from Detroit, Michigan skipper Terry Gibney and crew Mike Lorenz with 14 points. Rounding out 3rd through 5th is Neal Turluck and Andrew Kelly in 3rd with 22 points, Jeff Phillips and Isaiah Meyer in 4th place with 26 points, and George Macon and Charlie Koules in 5th with 27 points.
