Report by Johannes Freytag:
Exciting output at the IDM 2013 Star Boats (1 to 5 May, 2013)br> With a real comeback for the veteran Alexander Hagen and bowman Marko A. Hasche the International German Championship ended at Soest in Westphalia. In gusty west winds, the Hamburg duo from Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (NRV) prevailed in a high-caliber competition. It was at the end of a razor-thin decision (one point), in the last race in front of their club mates Johannes Polgar and Markus Koy that gave the Hamburg duo the victory.

"We will need luck", said the double world champion before the first race on Friday, showing respect for the area "with many local quirks" and especially with the gusty and changeable winds. Crew Hasche, however, rejoiced as a native Sauerlander, to be once again on these waters. However helmsman Hagen saw no advantage in having a "local" in the boat. No wonder, since Johannes Polgar has once learned to sail on the Bigge.

The first race on Thursday ended for Hagen / Hasche in third, but in the second race, they only finished a disappointing 21st and had a 6th in the third race. On the following day they found their strength and were number 1 ahead of Polgar / Koy.

It was exciting on Saturday, as Hagen / Hasche placed 1 and 2, leading up to the last race. Polgar / Koy then got a tenth place in the day's final race.

A lack of winds on Sunday made a counter-attack by Polgar / Koy no longer possible. Placing third were Johannes Babendererde / Manuel Voigt from Luebeck.

"We are very happy that we did not have to sail today," Alexander Hagen admitted after the official ceremony. Crew Hasche could now elebrate his first German championship after the vice-championship 2010 in Berlin. (Text Johannes Freytag)
