Report by Markus Durchlaub: Saturday welcomed all participants to the Baldeneysee, Germany, with a few clouds from time to time and sunshine providing cool but good spring weather. The wind struggled to an average of 4 Bft., but unfortunately did not get up to 6 Bft. as predicted. A small token of conciliation was that the wind was coming from the northwest direction. This enabled the race committee to adjust the shape of the course and to set it right in front of the club. "We encountered varying wind directions and then averaged out the course," said the race course officer in the evening. The first race was won by Felix Gold and Walter Baudisch by a wide margin. Then the second race saw Joerg Mellis and Simon Fallais also winning by themselves. This third and final race on Saturday began with increasing strong wind gusts. After several starting attempts with too eager participants, the Black Flag went up, leading to the desired result of a successful start. Unfortunately the wind was now down so that the race was shortened at the windward mark. Claus- Peter Luxa with Rolf Roettger passed the finish line first, earning the third and last win of the day. Sunday came as expected with sunshine and no wind. After some waiting, the race committee decided, after consultation with the victims, to end the Spring Trophy. The winners were Frank Tusch and Sven Winkelmann, with Joerg Mellis and Simon Fallais in second and Claus-Peter Luxa and Rolf Roettger third overall. The Essen fleet was pleased to once again welcome guests from Hamburg, the Edersee and the Moehnesee. Three newcomers came from Greifswald, a little late to start due to the weather conditions that exceeded their current skills. The author expresses, however, "practice and come back!" Star #5185, formerly of Tobi Nico Jurgensen, was seen again back on Baldeneysee. |
