2011 District 10 and Swedish Championship

Report by Anders Peterson

Philip Carlson and Benjamin Peterson (GKSS; Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club) became new Swedish Champions and champions of district 10 in Starboat, at the races arranged by Westgotarne Yacht Club in Lidkoping. This team now can change their red star in the mainsail to a blue one.

The races took place in an alternate weather, Friday through Sunday. On Saturday, only one race could be sailed because of strong thunderstorms. During Sunday's races the two young sailors, 21 and 22 years old, nailed two out of three races and was thus able to secure the title. Philip and Benjamin thus are among the youngest teams ever, winning a Swedish Championship in the Starboat class.

It was also the anniversary for both the Swedish Championship in Starboat, which was sailed for the eightieth time, and for the Star boat itself which in 2011 turns a hundred years.

Results of SM and DM in Starboat 2011.

The three top teams were all from the Kattegatt fleet, and the representation overall from this fleet was impressing, with nine out of nineteen participating teams. In all, teams from five fleets were represented in this championship.

Urban Nyhammar and Henrik Glimstedt became rookies of 2011 and have now the right to place a green star in their mainsail.
