Series winners of the 79th running of the Lipton Cup held in conjunction with the Oxford Summer Regatta |

| Partly sunny skies and a light easterly breeze welcomed the 79th running of the Chesapeake Bay Star Lipton Cup. We were fortunate to be able to get in three races before the wind died. Having the windward mark close to the entrance of the Choptank River made for a shifty day. At days' end, three boats were within a point or so of each other and in excellent position to claim the regatta. On Sunday the breeze had shifted to a more southerly direction and increased to about 15 knots. After the first race the competition remained tight. Whoever finished ahead in the last race would prevail. Vanderhoff/Dolezal finished about half a boat length ahead of Collins/Doyle to win. The Summer Oxford/Lipton Cup event is teeming with trophies. For the Star class, in addition to series 1st, 2nd and 3rd, there are: Top Novice (Johnson Cup) – Donald Elliot/Robert Bradford, First Place race1 (Havana Cup 1) – Murray Leigh/ Chris hardin, Second Place race1 (Havana Cup 2) – Robert Collins/Jake Doyle, and Race 2&3 combined winner (Johnson Trophy) – John Vanderhoff/Adam Dolezal. Many thanks to the Tred Avon Yacht Club for hosting this regatta and to the Race Committee for providing us a weekend of great sailing. |
