| 2010 ANNAPOLIS SPRING STAR REGATTA Due to high winds Saturday, the Annapolis Spring Star Regatta Fleet had to wait until Sunday to sail. But Sunday brought beautiful sailing conditions as five Stars sailed three windward leeward races under partly sunny skies in shifty 12 to 18 knot Northwest breezes. In the first two races the right side of the course proved to be favored and Elliott Oldak and Chris Hardin led Ben Fransen and Andy Noel to take 1st and 2nd respectively. The racing was close, so Keith Donald with his beautifully restored “Baltic Blue” Old Greenwich Boat Co. Etchells Star #4125 and Ben Sternberg and Crew Valentin Veytsman both kept good pace with the leaders. In the final race Keith and his Crew Jim Pickering showed how the left side of the course could work and easily rounded the first mark ahead, but as the racing continued Fransen and Noel took control for the bullet. The final results saw Oldak and Hardin 1st , Fransen and Noel 2nd, and Sternberg and Veytsman 3rd. A good day of Star sailing was enjoyed by all, and thanks go to the Severn Sailing Association for their fine Race Management. |
