Report By Rick Burgess: Twenty one boats from around the northeast arrived at the Seneca Yacht Club this past weekend to sail the New York State Championships. Mother nature looked favorably on us for the entire wee-end, providing 10 to 15 mph of wind both days. Saturday started at 10:30 with the first of three races and was won at the end by John MacCausland/Kevin Murphy, over 12th district champion Brian Cramer/Mat Johnson. Races two and three were won by Brian and Mat with John and Kevin coming second. There was a weather report of a late afternoon thunderstorm so we all sailed back to the club and enjoyed Rob Eberling's famous Rum Punch and, of course, the Seneca Yacht Club's never- ending open beer keg. The storm came and went and we were left to enjoy a wonderful steak dinner. Sunday came and the weather was a repeat of Saturday. The Race Committee was set and ready to go right on time and race four was away with Brian and Mat picking up right where they left off on Saturday with a first. This allowed them to get a jump on getting to the hoist early, as they did not have to sail the fifth race. Lots of really good things happened this week-end, starting with long time Greenwood Lake sailor Bob Krahulik teaming up with Chris Rodgers sailing in a borrowed boat and then buying it. Welcome back Bob. Abby White, daughter of fleet secretary Tom White, sailing her own boat, 7783, teamed up with Jen Tayne. And Kevin Westcott, sailed his dad's boat in his first regatta, as dad did race committee work. This is the continuation of three generations of Westcotts sailing stars at Seneca Yacht Club. |
