48th Oktoberfestregatta for the Konsul-van-Kempen Challenge Trophy The Oktoberfestregatta 2009 was organized by the Herrschinger Segelclub and the hosting fleet Andechser Flotte AND directly after the end of the Open German Championships on Lake Ammersee. After the death of honorable Konsul van Kempen in 2008 a new and valuable trophy, a silver Star boat model, was donated by the family van Kempen as a perpetual prize. 61 entries and 48 starters from Austria, Hungary, Poland, Russia, Switzerland and Germany went into the Series, which traditionally is a season-end highlight and one of the biggest race series of its kind in Europe. Klaus Pittrich, head of the race committee and chief organizer, took the opportunity of medium easterly winds and sunny conditions on Friday afternoon to sail three of the four planned races. After the first day Werner Fritz and Ulli Seeberger, Bedaius fleet, took the lead and were already the series winners. They were followed by Josef Urban and Andreas Steinkogler, Traunsee fleet, and Carl-Peter Forster and Stefan Wagner from Starnberg and Ammersee fleet on third place. On Saturday morning the fourth and last race was won by Felix Gold from the Essener fleet and Oliver Witzum, Tegernsee fleet. The Oktoberfestregatta overall was won by Werner Fritz/Ulli Seeberger with Arpad Litkey / Akos Nagy from Hungarian Oregheghy fleet second, and "Sepp" Urban/Andreas Steinkogler in third. Besides the interesting racing activities, the social events, as every year, contributed to the very relaxed atmosphere. The traditional welcom barbecue on Thursday for the participants was perfect like every year. With his long time experience, Secretary Heinz-Peter Nersinger and the Captain Martin Eckel with their crew managed to serve 400 pairs of sausages without any problem to sailors and their guests. On Friday the morning started with the special Bavarian "Weisswurst" breakfast and pretzels, while the crews launched the boats and prepared themselves for the regatta. On Saturday evening the teams and their guests joined in the club house of the hosting Herrschinger Segelclub, to celebrate the 47th Oktoberfest-Regatta. After two medium wind and sunny sailing days, the participants were hungry and thirsty. An opulent Bavarian buffet given by the hosting fleet with amazing quantities of beer was celebrated in the club. After the prizegiving Ceremony the Club Cocktail bar opened and the sailors enjoyed the evening with some drinks and relaxing music. |
