| Patience was required for the Lippincott Star Regatta. Saturday, a race was started mid afternoon in a light southerly. The left side was favored on the first beat and split the fleet. 8177 and 8264 swapped the lead several times and the first three finishers turned out to be Jud Smith/Stuart Delisser, Pete McChesney/Shane Zwingelberg and Bert Collins/Bob Oberg. Sunday, we waited longer for the breeze. The thermal southerly never got established and finally a moderate westerly appeared. A race was started in the mouth of the Severn River and went well for the first half. Then conditions became unstable with a stronger southerly influence. The lead changed among three different boats on the last leg. Jud Smith/Stuart Delisser again finished first winning the regatta as well as the Masters’ trophy. Tom Price/Murray Leigh finished second allowing them to take the series second. Arthur Anasov/Michael Nichol finished third. The novice trophy was awarded to the series 6th place boat of Dan Coughlin/Brad Balmert Thanks go to the Annapolis Yacht Club for waiting on the breeze and providing a good evening social and meal. |
