| After four races, two outside and two inside the final scoring was done and Ron Sandstrom and Charlie Hagedon won the 2009 Marshall Brown/Secretary's Cup regatta with 11 points over Dan Coughlin and Roger Morgan form Long Island Sound, 13 points. Third place went to the team of Gary MacDonald and Luis Hornos, 14 points. Eight boats started on the outside line (Broad Sound) on Saturday for what might be the finest sailing anyone could remember in the open water of Mass Bay. The next day, Sunday with light and shifting winds from the west, north west the fleet sailed inside the harbor starting near Deer Island Light. Two course 4's were sailed in very shifty winds but the RC got all four races in. At the trophy presentation we all remembered that it was guys like Marshall who was a veteran of WW2 that made it possible for us to sail this regatta some 65 years after D-day. Thanks to all the service men and women who served this country. |
