The
preliminary entry list for the 2009
Star Worlds in Varberg, Sweden in August is being compiled as
entries come in. The entry
list with discrepancies for the Rolex
Baltic Week European Championship in Kiel, Germany is posted.
Entry deadline is June 15.
Lynn Fitzpatrick of World Regattas.com, marketing and public relations
consultant for the class, has issued a call for Star
photos as she researches a book for the class's 100th
anniversary in 2011.
Executive Director Barbara Beigel Vosbury has written a note
to members with information on entry status for class
championship events.
Racing
Results of May 2009
The Eastern
Hemisphere Championship, sailed at Hyeres, France, brought
new Silver Star champions in Peter O'Leary and Tim Goodbody.
Lynn Fitzpatrick provided reports
on the racing.
The 17th
District Championship was sailed at Selce, Croatia and won by
Marin Lovrovic Jr. and Sinisa Mikulicic. In South America, Lars
Grael and Renato Moura are the 2009 7th
District Champions,
sailing the event at Lake Paranoá,
Brazil. The 13th
District Championship was held at Muiden, The Netherlands and
this year's champions are Robert Stanjek and Markus Koy.
In Italy, Brazilians Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada showed up to win
the Expert
Olympic Garda, sailed at Riva del Garda. At Viareggio,
Daniele and Davide Mugnaini won the PDV
Fleet Championship and Roberto Righi and Davide Bortoletto
won the IX
Trofeo Pietro Tobino. Walter Passegger and Martin
Kropfitch drove south from Austria to win the 24th
Coppa Tito Nordio in Trieste. On the western shore of Lake
Garda, the Gentleman's
Cup winners were Paolo Masserdotti and Massimiliano Tassini.
In Austria, the Graf
Lodron Preis was won by Josef Urban and Andreas Steinkogler.
Hans Spitzauer and Adolf Luzlbauer won the Pfingstregatta
Max Kastinger on the Attersee.
The Dolesch
Ivan Memorial, which took place in
Balatonfoldvar, Hungary, was won by Arpad Litkey and Gyula
Monus
In the Netherlands, the Delta
Lloyd Regatta was won by Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada. Lynn
Fitzpatrick traveled north from Hyeres to Medemblik for more reports
on Star racing.
At Zurich, Switzerland, the Zurcher
Fruhlingspreis winners were Jurg Ryffel and
Lukas Wyss. The International
Swiss Championsihp went to Fritz Werner and Uli
Seeberger, sailing at Rapperswil. Christoph and Daniel Christen won the
Jungfrau
Trophy at Thun
In France, fathers and sons ruled. The 37th
Ducs de Nemours winners were Regis and Vincent Berenguier
(with Clement and Philippe Brillaud second). In Paris, Loic and Louis
Eonnet won the Coupe
de Printemps and in Nice, Jacques and Jean Francois Puissegur
won the Filance
Dance.
In Sweden, the Grand
Prix 1 - Varfyren was won by Mats Johannsson and Leif Moller.
In Finland, the first Grand Prix race of the season, Stickan
Wikstrom, had Joni Leeve and Asko Salminen as the winners
while the Grand
Prix 2 - Suunto Cup was won by Stefan Winqvist and Olle
Totterman,
In Germany, the Heinz
Nixdorf Pokal was won by Johannes Polgar and Nils
Holweg. Polgar then raced again a week later with Tim Kroger and won
the Casino
Cup at Bad Zwischenahn. At Hamburg,
Alexander Hagen and Kai Falkental won the Erich
F. Laeisz Preis and repeated the win at the Beate
Uhse Gedachtnis Preis the next week.
On the USA east coast, the Oursler
Regatta at St. Michaels, Maryland was won by Jock
Kohlhas. At Annapolis, Maryland, Jud Smith and Stuart Delisser won the Lippincott
Regatta. In New
Jersey, Rick Merriman and Phil Trinter took the 51st
Tomahawk Regatta on Lake Hopatcong.
In the American midwest, Peter and Dan Wright won the Tulip
Tune Up Regatta and on the west coast, Cal
Race Week at Marina del Rey, California, was won by Tom
Hulme, and Rod Hagebols and Conrad Brown took the honors
at the Rollins
Bowl in San Diego.
In Brazil, Lars Grael and Renato Moura also won the Taca
Fernandes.
