Dear Star Sailors,

Happy Holidays from the Central Office! Rene and I wish you good Health, great Happiness and much Success in the New Year.

What’s on your New Years Resolution list?
* Getting better starts?
* Oh, yes and that new set of sails!—who could leave that off the list?
* Racing more Silver Star events?
* Getting that backstay on every time before my skipper can even blink an eye?
* One good splash at the beginning of the season to remind the skipper what it’s like at the waterline!

My list includes all of the above plus a few more…
* Meet more Star Sailors from more places.
* Be more efficient in the office and not as many mistakes.
* To be Healthy and Happy.

Whatever your wish, I hope it comes true for you.

The World Championship in Rio starts on the 12th (measurement). There are 80 entries and this should be a great event. I’m looking forward to meeting more of the Brazilian Star sailors as well as catching up with the all of the travelers. See you in Rio! (I just love saying that!)

The Winter Circuit in Florida is fast approaching also. The Schoonmaker and Commodore’s Cup were just a taste of what is to be a great sailing season in Miami. The Levin, Walker Cup and MOCR in January, the Zag Masters in February, and the pinnacle Bacardi Cup in March are all set and waiting for you to arrive!. Entries are now open for all of these events.

Bacardi Cup is part of a larger event this year, Miami Sailing Week. While we will still have our own race course, we will share our revelry with the Melges 24’s, Melges 20’s, J24’s and Vipers! Bacardi is incorporating our sailing activities with a celebration in Coconut Grove so this year is a “don’t miss year”. I hope to see a lot of you there!

The Western Hemisphere Championship will take place in Nassau, Bahamas. I’ve heard great stories of racing in Nassau, the friendship of the Bahamian sailors, the great breezes, beautiful beaches and just plain a fun good time! The Class hasn’t been to Nassau in a few years so it will be good for all of us to take the little trek over and renew all those great friendships and take in the great sailing. I plan to see you there.

The office will be closed Wednesday 23 December through Sunday 27 December, and Friday 1 January. I will be in Rio from 11 January through 20 January and will try to keep up with emails while I am there. Rene will be in the office on Tuesdays during my time away checking her emails (rene@starclass.org) and the phone.

Smooth (and fast!) sailing, friends -

Best regards,

Barbara Beigel-Vosbury
