Due to time commitments with the Volvo Ocean Race and many other activities, Torben Grael has taken a leave of absence from his position as South American 1st Vice President. Torben has held this office since 2001 and has been a very active member of the International Governing Committee of the ISCYRA.

The officers and members of the Class will miss Torben’s strong but gentle guidance and wish him well in his new endeavors. Not to worry, star sailors in South America will still see Torben and his son Marco on the starting line.

The International Governing Committee and the Class Management Committee are pleased to announce that Gastao Brun has graciously agreed to finish out Torben Grael’s term as South American 1st Vice President.

Many of you know Gastao, and Angela, from the winter racing circuit in Miami as well as the many other classes that Gastao competes in around the world. Gastao hails from the Paranoa fleet in Brazil where he serves as the District 18 Secretary. Gastao has sailed Stars for many years and has served as mentor to many new Star sailors in Brazil.

The officers and members of the Class welcome Gastao and look forward to his participation on the International Governing Committee.

Luis Bustelo will continue to serve as South American 2nd Vice President.
