Message from the International President

Dear Star Sailors,

This is my last message as your International President. After the ISAF meeting of Copenhagen, I have decided to resign from my presidency of the Class. I feel that my time is over and that the "mission is accomplished"!

I took over the Class when it was out of the Olympic Games, brought it back with Paul, Dierk and others, then kept it in the Olympic Games winning the challenge against the Soling 19 votes in favor and 17 against. Very close that time!! In Copenhagen, the Class has been voted in by 33 to 3 and, honestly, there was never any real discussion.

We have an established "weight rule", national letter codes and full advertising. Most of the "sailing names" are members of the class and we enjoy a healthy financial status. Most important, I feel the Class has earned a fantastic reputation across the international sailing world and I'm very proud and happy about this.

I truly love the Star Class. It has been for me a superb and formative experience to be your President for these seven years and for this I thank you all: friends, as well as political adversaries, that I've met on the way. I know everybody was acting in good faith, trying to achieve what was his/her personal idea on the best for the class, as I did.

Bill Allen, as senior International Vice President, will take over for the next year, but I hope and suggest that he is taken into consideration and voted as International President at the end of 2005. I trust his knowledge of the Class and his understanding of the importance of being a leader in the "international" arena.

I wish you all the best and once again thank you! It has been a great ride!

Riccardo Simoneschi
