Annual Meeting of the Membership of the International Star Class

Bill Allen and Rick Burgess with Harry Nye Trophy

The meeting was called to order at 1820 by Richard Burgess, Chairman of the International Governing Committee.

In attendance: President Bill Allen, Vice President Paolo Insom, Vice President Claude Bonanni, Continental 2nd Vice President Tibor Tenke, Class Management Committee At Large Daniel Wyss and Executive Director Barbara Beigel-Vosbury. 33 Fleets were represented and one Isolated member.

World Champion George Szabo, Fleet Captain of the San Diego Bay Fleet invited everyone to come to San Diego for the 2013 World Championship. George mentioned that the America’s Cup will start one week after the Championship. San Diego and San Francisco are great destinations for sailing as well as touring. The World Championship with the added attraction of the America’s Cup makes this the place to be in September of 2013. Plan to come!

President Bill Allen welcome all of the members present and gave a brief overview of the continued Olympic quest for 2016.

Rick Burgess announced that the IGC has chosen Malcesine, Italy on Lago di Garda as the site of the 2014 World Championship. World Champion Roberto Benamati of the Garda Fleet graciously accepted the appointment and assured us all that it would be a great championship on and off the water.

Rick Burgess proceeded to review the resolutions. It is noted that #2-2012 was withdrawn. There was good discussion from the members of the weight limits, the 5 races in your home waters.

Bill Allen took the floor to present one of the most prestigious trophies in the Class. The Harry Gale Nye Jr. Trophy is awarded to the person whose outstanding and exceptional contributions to the Class cannot go unnoted. The 2011 winner of this trophy was Richard Burgess.

A new fleet has been formed in Illinois. The Chicago Harbor fleet was approved by the membership. The members of this fleet will be sailing out of a new harbor being built in Chicago.

Results of the voting are as follows (resolutions voted are are listed here):

33 Fleets and 1 Isolated member in Attendance for a total of 291 possible votes
