Request for a loaner Star boat.

We hope that you are familiar with the Loan program the Class adopted last year. If not it is on our web site. The purpose is to provide equipment, boats, trailers and sails to be loaned to individuals, Yacht Clubs and fleets to be used to promote Star sailing. In return we offer a letter of value to be available for your Tax consideration.

Currently we have a request from a young man in Colorado. He has sent a very complete application which is below.

If you are interested in helping and have a competitive Star that you would donate please contact me.

Thank you,
John Chiarella, International Secretary

Star Boat Loan Request from Steve Ragle

There are several reasons why I should receive a loner Star. First, I try very hard in school and receover very good grades. I am in all honors classes. Net reason is that I have a single mom who is a teacher and would be able to buy my own Star. I could afford to take care of a Star though. Also I have sailed on Stars several times and i feel they are the best boat possible and I will probably be sailing Stars for the rest of my life. Also I should be given a Star because I am fifteen so if i had a boat I could get some of my friends involved in sailing and help stop the sport from dying. Also since I have lots of experience cleaning and taking card of boats my Star would always be beautiful and extremely clean. Clearly I am a very good candidate for a loner Star.

Sailing Goals:
As fas as my goals for my sailing career I have three main things I want to accomplish. First, I hope that I get to the same level as our commodore that everybody knows that I am one of the best on the lake, and be good enough to have sail with at least a silver star and a chevron. My second goal is that I would like to make it to at least a world class level regatta if not the Olympics (when the Star becomes an Olympic boat again). My last goal is to set up a program that is no cost that teaches kids and adults how to sail. Therefore my goals are not only achievable but are also beneficial to others.
